Career and College Planning

We pride ourselves on helping students achieve their true potential from the youngest age through their college planning endeavors. To facilitate in guiding each student to succeed and advance to the college of their choice, an advising program has been put into place. The program includes workshops, guest speakers, parent nights, and authentic experiences with a plethora of colleges and universities throughout a student’s high school career.

Preparatory Activities

Ninth Grade

  • Advising: Community Service, Study Skills, Ramping up Soft Skills, Stress Management, Understanding your GPA and Transcript, Building a Resume, Career Exploration 1, Summer Checklist
  • Spring (March) Field Trip: University of Michigan-Ann Arbor: The Value of a College Education and Central Campus Walking Tour (Parents are invited to chaperone)
  • Curriculum Night: Question and Answer – Reality of College Admissions (Representative from College)

Tenth Grade

  • Advising: Credit Recovery, Building a Resume, Pursuing Academic and Extracurricular Opportunities, Career Exploration 2 & College Exploration 1, Creating Initial College List, AP Discussion, Summer Plans, Community Service, Summer Checklist
  • Spring Field Trip: University of Michigan-Ann Arbor: Blueprint to College Planning and Central Campus Walking Tour (Parents are invited to chaperone) and local college fairs as available

Eleventh Grade

  • Advising: College Exploration 2, Revising Initial College List, Interviewing Admissions Counselors, Building your Resume, Setting up Internships or Job Shadowing Experiences, Community Service, The Common Application, Summer Checklist
  • Fall Lecture or Field Trip:  Navigating Financial Aid and Demystifying the College Admissions Process (Parents are invited to attend)
  • Spring Field Trip: Shadow a Student Day (EMU or U of M)

Twelfth Grade

  • Advising: Applying to a minimum of 3 colleges, arranging for Recommendation Letters, Writing and Revising Scholarship/College Essays, Completing your Resume
  • Guest Speakers: The College Experience; Maintaining a Strong Muslim Identity; Campus Life and Leadership Opportunities
  • Fall Lecture:  Navigating Financial Aid and Demystifying the College Admissions Process (Parents are invited to attend)
  • Winter and/or Spring Break: Internships provided by Parents and Community Insha’Allah
