MashaAllah, once again students of the Michigan Islamic Academy (MIA) have excelled in the recent standardized testing of the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP). This test was performed in the fall of 2007, and is generally conducted once a year in order to gauge the performance of elementary and middle school students from 3rd grade to 9th grade. All students are assessed in the subjects of math, reading and writing, and some students of specific grades are assessed in the subjects of science and social studies. The scoring of student performance is ranked according to four categories:

exceeds the required standard
meets the required standard
At the basic level
At the apprentice level

A good score entails achieving a rank within category 1 or 2. As can be seen in the histograms above showing the percentage of students who met or exceeded (category 1 and 2) the required state standard for all grades in math, reading and writing, almost all MIA students met or exceeded the standard. The score of MIA students outperforms by far the score of students across the state of Michigan. More importantly, it is worth mentioning that this score exceeds in most cases the score of students in the famed Ann Arbor public schools. Such a high quality performance from MIA students is not surprising since it constitutes the fruit of many years of steady academic improvement, championed by a dedicated team of faculty and staff. It has to be said that MIA students, like any other students from Muslim schools, not only have to achieve a quality education similar, if not better, than that of students in the public school system, they have the additional duty of learning about Islam in order to carry its message of peace and tolerance. We ask Allah (swt) to help MIA maintain a high standard of education by helping the staff and teachers maintain a high degree of dedication so as to raise model Muslim citizens. Finally, we thank Allah (swt) for bestowing his blessings and bounty on MIA students, and we express our sincere gratitude to the teachers for their relentless dedication to provide "excellence in education while nurturing a Muslim character".
