Social Studies
American History
- The historical development
of our nation is studied to help students know how it’s
social, cultural and political institutions develop and
comprehend contemporary issues. The semester covers the
period from colonial development to the emergence of the
US as a world power through the 20th century. Research
projects and outside reading are required.
World Cultures and Geography
- This course will help
students develop and expand a sense of global
interdependence and a basic understanding of the forces,
which now directly affect our lives. They will acquire a
basic knowledge of geography, culture, politics,
history, art, science, linguistics and religion. This
course aims to help the student develop a personal value
and behavior system based on a global and Islamic
perspective. The students explore global problems and
their solutions.
Law
- This course focuses on the
purpose of law, principles and values in the US
constitution, criminal law and civil law along with
current issues.
Economics
- This is a one-semester
course. Topics studied are resources, labor, management,
supply and demand, advertising, contracts, mass media,
banking, and comparative economic systems especially
business and the economy in an Islamic system. We
discuss economic problems using books, magazines,
newspapers, films and guest speakers.
United States Government
- This course
emphasizes the purpose of government, the historical
evolution of the political system, the US Constitution,
the elective process, branches of the national
government, and local as well as state government.
High School Art & Physical
Education are also taught.

Algebra 1
- Development of real
numbers, number systems, equation solving, inequalities,
graphing, factoring and higher order polynomials.
Algebra 2
- Review and extension of
Algebra 1, exponential and logarithmic functions,
complex numbers, determinants, conic sections, sequences
and series, trigonometry, and probability, quadratic
conditions, radicals, computer and calculator
activities.
Geometry 1
- Idea of proof introduced
and used plane geometry, solid geometry, logic and
trigonometry.
Geometry 2
- Review and extension of
Geometry 1.
Pre-Calculus (11th Grade)
- This course covers
equations and inequalities, graphs and functions,
polynomial functions, exponential and logarithmic
functions, trigonometry, matrices and determinants,
sequences and series, analytic geometry, and an
introduction to probability.
Science
Chemistry (10th Grade)
- This course examines
philosophy, broad outline and limitations of an
experimental science whose focus is on matter and its
transformation. The course includes laboratory
experiments.
Physics (11th Grade)
- This course deals with the
interactions occurring in the Universe. The course
includes experiments, lab reports, observation and
demonstration, the history of science, class
discussions, kinetics, dynamics, energy transformations,
heat, wave phenomena, electricity and magnetism, new
technologies and governmental policies impacting
scientific development.
Biology (9th, 10th, 11th
Grade)
- This lab science course
covers plants, animals, biochemistry, heredity, ecology
and human biology. It earns credit in Biological Science
toward the science graduation requirement.
Safety, Wellness, and
Reproductive Health
- This course is also
available for high schoolers and usually taken by
seventh and eighth grade and is designed to enable our
students to be responsible, informed and capable
decision-makers. Also covered are American Red Cross
Standard First Aid and CPR, substance abuse, stress,
mental and emotional well being, fitness, nutrition,
reproductive health.
Language Arts
English and Literature (9th
Grade)
- This course stresses
English composition and Literature, writing long and
short essays, poems, stories, mechanics of writing,
grammar review, pre-writing and revising skills, study
of British, American, or world literature, analysis of
literature and literary terminology, high level
anthology combined with outside readings, take home
essays, analysis of literature, literary terminology.
English Literature (10th Grade)
- Combination of
composition and literature, writing style development,
writing of longer essays, poems, plays, stories,
research and literary essays, effective composition
skills studies, computers used, reading of American,
British, or World Literature/or outside novels, literary
terminology and analysis, development of themes.
English and Literature (11th
Grade)
- Strengthening of writing
skills, longer essays and research papers development,
computers used, combination of British, American, /or
World Literature and reading of outside texts.
British Literature (9th, 10th,
11th Grades)
- Reading of novels, poetry,
essays, and drama of 8th to 20th century writers,
strengthening of analytical reading and writing skills,
short answer and formal essays, class discussions.
American Literature (9th, 10th,
11th Grades)
- Reading of various
selections in American poetry, drama, and prose of early
writings and modern times, analyze literature in writing
and oral forms, anthology used supplemented with outside
novels and selections, development of language and
analytical skills, anthology with outside readings to
develop their language and analytical skills.
World Literature (9th, 10th, 11th
Grades)
- Selections read from
various world cultures, exploration of cultural
differences, strengthening of language and analytical
skills, short answer and long essays, development of
personal writing and translation, long essay
assignments.
Journalism (9th, 10th, 11th
Grades)
- This course emphasizes the
role of journalism in a democratic society, how news is
gathered and prepared for publication, how feature
articles and editorials are written, and how a school
newspaper is actually prepared. The role of broadcasting
and technology in disseminating news is also explored.
Short Reading (9th, 10th, 11th
Grades)
- This course examines the
role of short stories and poetry in literacy traditions.
The selections chosen are analyzed and the students’ own
writing skills are honed by creating short stories and
poetry of their own.
